Jacqueline Kreiss of New York shuns doctor visits but is a frequent buyer at the Vitamin Shoppe.

The New York Times reported this week what many of us in the supplement industry have observed for some time, namely that despite the difficult economic times supplement sales have been somewhat immune to the worldwide economic downturn.

The article entitled As Economy Is Down, Vitamin Sales Are Up cites statistics supplied by Vitamin Shoppe and Nutrition Business Journal.  The article also reports that sales of OTC products have dipped.

The NYT piece came as no surprise to many of us since the power of the Internet combined with a powerfully educated customer base has propelled sales of supplement products to consumers well informed on how to maintain good health.  Let’s hope the trend continues…
