burning ipod

iPods sparking and catching on fire? KIRO, the Seattle ABC affiliate, has obtained 800 pages of documents from the Consumer Product Safety Commission detailing cases of iPods catching on fire resulting in injury. The documents have been released after attempts by Apple’s lawyers to keep them out of the headlines.

This piece in Ars Technica nicely summarizes the situation.  It appears that KIRO has doggedly pursued this investigation for close to a year.  Wonder if the station’s proximity to MS headquarters has anything to do with the keen interest in this issue in the Pacific Northwest?  In any case, for lots of interesting eyewitness reports and video on this issue, click here.
